Jack McLaughin and a future resident during construction in 1998 |Designed by the architectural firm of Hacin+Associates in conjunction with our developer, the late Jack McLaughlin, construction on the new building began in 1998 and occupancy began in late 1999 and into 2000. |
|In 2002, a memorial sculpture for Jack McLaughlin, in light and bronze, was installed. Laconia Lofts, the first new construction of artist lofts condominiums on the East Coast, was the long time dream of Jack. The art project, headed by Ann McQueen, took 2 ½ years from concept to finish and included a public art competition from which the design of Mirta Tocci, a resident of Laconia Lofts and Barcelona, Spain, was chosen. The memorial is located near the entrance to the Lofts on Harrison Avenue.|

Residents gather for a social hour in one of the lofts |The residents of Laconia Lofts have an incredibly wide range of backgrounds, ages, and talents. |
Because the original loft buyers took delivery of their lofts in a 'raw' state, the building now boasts an incredible variety of interior finishes, as each owner was able to designate the entire interior design of their loft space. Thanks to the vision of the primary developer, the late Jack McLaughlin, the building features some of the highest ceiling heights in Boston, ranging from about 10.5 feet to 19 feet, depending on the finishes and the location of the loft within the building.

The Annual Rooftop Party is held on the common roofdeck each summer |Thanks to the incredible array of design concepts conceived and/or chosen by the owners in the build-outs of their lofts, many of them have been featured in TV shows, magazine articles, photo shoots and newspapers over the last several years.|
|The building is home to a large number of practicing artist owners, spanning a range of talents including painting, photography, sculpture, and interior design.
Laconia Lofts is located in the heart of the burgeoning South End arts district, which is sometimes referred to as the SOWA (South of Washington) area. There are many galleries, shops, restaurants, and parks in the immediate area.
Laconia Lofts is a pet friendly building.

We have a very active neighborhood association named "Old Dover", and a great park across the street called Peters Park, which features a little league baseball diamond, basketball, tennis, playgrounds, and a dog run.
We are located on the MBTA's new Silver Line, which provides 10 minute access to Downtown Crossing and will eventually provide a "single-seat" ride to Logan airport via new tunnels. Thanks to the nearly complete "Big Dig" and our proximity to it, it is now possible to drive to Logan Airport via the new tunnel in less than 10 minutes! Very quick access to I-93 and I-90 is present as well.
