Until residents began moving into Boston's diverse South End in the spring of 2000, the term "Loft Living" conveyed old, abandoned industrial buildings in rundown, rust-strewn neighborhoods inhabited by artists needing the large open spaces - and low rent - to create their work. Laconia Lofts combines the old - open spaces, high ceilings, large windows - with amenities of the new - underground parking, large lobbies, modern elevators, high-tech hookups for TV and computers, plus an art gallery for the many artists who stayed and made their home - and continue to make their art - at Laconia Lofts.
